DARBOY, Wis. (WFRV) Charlie Knuth is hospitalized at the University of Minnesota following a major setback.

According to an overnight Caring Bridge journal entry by his mother Trisha, "I am not sure where this is going to go. I will know tomorrow...Praying my little Char Char can just pull through this one."

Charlie was rushed to the University of Minnesota Hospital yesterday after what appeared to be just a cough a low grade fever rapidly became worse.

His mother writes, "His knees ached so badly he could not stand up, and to my surprise he was just oozing blood. His knees, neck, even the gums in his mouth."

Charlie's health took even more of a downward spiral as they drove to Minnesota.

"On the way to MN Charlie seemed to be going downhill fast. He was pale, lethargic, and whimpering like a puppy in his sleep."

Charlie was given hydrocodone for the pain.

It appears Charlie's white blood cells were wiped out from a virus he was battling. Now he also has a blood infection which has wiped out his platelets.

Doctors have started IV antibiotics and overnight Charlie received a platelet transfusion.

His mom ends her journal entry, "I have said so many times 'I just don't know how he can get through this?' but he always does. God I love him."

Local 5 will continue to follow Charlie's treatment and will bring you the very latest during our newscasts and on our website.
