HealthWatch (WFRV) If you're a biker or walker in the Green Bay area--- you may have crossed paths with Michael Albertson. Each year he bikes seventeen hundred miles and walks fourteen! But all that exercise didn't keep him safe from a medical emergency.

By most accounts, Mike Alberston is a  healthy guy.  He didn't think he had a deadly problem lurking inside his chest.  He did-- and it almost took his life.

"I've done many things in my life time, whitewater, kayaking, sea kayaking, biking.  I've run marathons."  Said Mike.

Mike doesn't do it alone.  His 8 year old Golden Doodle goes along for the ride.

 During a bike ride from Green  Bay to Wittenberg Mike fell to the ground from Arrest.

Two People found him and called 911.  Mike was flown to Aurora BayCare Medical Center and Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. William Witmer.  

Dr. Witmer  identified a massive blockage in mike's L-A-D artery and immediately opted for a Radial Stent.

Mike was placed in an induced coma for 48 hours. When he woke up he couldn't believe it.  Neither could Dr. Witmer.

Only 15 percent of people who have sudden cardiac death outside the hospital make it to the hospital alive.  And only about 50 percent of those live to leave the hospital.  So the second he dropped off his bike he had about a 5 percent chance of become like he is now."  Said Dr. Witmer

Six days later mike left the hospital with no heart damage.   

Its been about five months since Mike's heart attack.  He is back to his normal routine--- biking ten miles a day walking six miles.
