APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) The City of Appleton has hired a new IT Director - with a significant expense.   Last month, we told you the city was looking to promote interim IT Director Dean Fox into the position permanently.  To fulfill the city's residency requirements for department heads, Fox will have to move 10 miles - from his home in Greenville to Appleton.

The city has agreed to pay up to $15,000 to cover realtor fees and an additional $5,000 for moving expenses.  That's down from original estimates of $25,000.  Only one council member voted against the hire.

The relocation funds sparked debate Wednesday night between members of the council.

Mayor Tim Hanna told Local 5 earlier this month the relocation issue could soon be moot if Governor Walker does away with residency requirements throughout the state in June.  Hanna says if that happens Fox may not get the money.  Fox has 12 months from now to relocate.  That's also down from the original two year window.
