KEWAUNEE COUNTY, Wisc. (WFRV) Kewaunee County is getting a boost to help replace jobs lost by the closure of the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Station.
A $50,000 grant is being given to Kewaunee County Economic Development to come up strategies to build up the economy. The grant is being provided by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
"The closure of the power plant is a significant hit to the local economy, but I'm confident the strong regional leadership will identify new opportunities for community and business redevelopment," said Reed Hall, chief operating officer of WEDC.
Dominion, the company which owns the plant, says they are moving forward with plans to close it down in the second quarter of 2013. They haven't officially identified a timeframe for employee layoffs.
