Installation continues as Packers return to practice field

After a day off Sunday, the Packers returned to a warm Ray Nitschke field on Monday morning.

The practice continued what Mike McCarthy calls the "installation phase" of camp.  The over 2 1/2 hour practice was heavy on team drills, specifically in the red zone.  Aaron Rodgers and the offense had its share of strong plays, as the reigning NFL MVP hooked up with Randall Cobb, D. J. Williams, and Jordy Nelson for touchdown passes.  The defense, however, came to play as well.  Charles Woodson picked off Rodgers over the middle during one red zone drill, and Jarrett Bush continued his case to keep a starting spot at cornerback with a big-time hit on running back James Starks.

A young player who could be earning more playing time this season is cornerback Davon House, who recorded a pair of interceptions on Monday, one off Graham Harrell and one off B. J. Coleman.  House, rookie Casey Hayward, Sam Shields, and Bush are all fighting for playing time opposite Tramon Williams.

On the injury front, Greg Jennings missed his second consecutive practice with a bruised elbow, while Jermichael Finley returned to the field Monday for non-contact drills only.  Finley, who suffered a slight concussion during Thursday's first camp practice, is expected to be back on the field in full pads Tuesday, McCarthy said.

The Packers will practice in full pads Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 8:15 a.m.  Then they'll practice at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night before Friday night's Family Night scrimmage.
