(WFRV)- Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has conceded to Republican Gov. Scott Walker in Wisconsin's historic recall election.

In a speech to supporters Mayor Barrett said he called Governor Walker to congratulate him on his victory.

He also commended his supporters for backing him throughout the entire recall process.

"To those of you who fought to obtain signatures, who stood out in the cold, who did what you thought was right, never ever, stop doing what you think is right, that is what makes this such a great country."

Mayor Barrett also had a vision for the future of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin.

"It is up to all of us, our side and their side to listen to each other and try to do what is right for everyone in this state. The state remains divided...at the end of the day we have to do what is right for Wisconsin families."
