Marquette University Law School Poll

MILWAUKEE,Wis.(WFRV) A new poll from Marquette University Law School finds former Governor Tommy Thompson with an eight-point lead over Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin 49 percent to 41 percent.

Thompson also holds an advantage among those planning to vote in the Republican primary on August 14th; 34 percent of likely primary voters said they would vote for him. Former Congressman Mark Neumann has 16 percent, businessman Eric Hovde has 14 percent and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald is at 10 percent.  25 percent said they were undecided.

When comparing the Republican Candidates to the lone Democrat, Tammy Baldwin, Neumann is tied at 44 percent each. Baldwin received 45 percent support over 39 percent for Fitzgerald; and Baldwin has a nine point edge over Hovde, 45 to 36 percent.

In the Presidential race, 49 percent of likely voters said they would vote for President Barack Obama over 43 percent for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.  In the previous Marquette Law School Poll done at the end of May, Obama led 51 to 43 percent.

The poll was conducted June 13-16 both by landline and cell phone.  The November matchups forlikely voters have a margin of error of +/- 4.1 percentage points while the results for Republican primary voters has a margin of error of +/- 5.4 percentage points.
