Darboy, Wis.(WFRV)--Charlie Knuth will need another stem cell transplant. He's the Darboy boy who suffers from a rare skin disease.
Charlie's mother, Trisha, writes on the CaringBridge website that Charlie has PTLD, or Post Transplant Lymphproliferative Disease, and that it has 'wiped out' his immune system.
She says doctors are waiting for approval from Medicaid for medication called rituximab that will help kill off his B cells, and relieve some of the tremendous pain that he feels.
After three days of the medication, Charlie will then get a second transplant with donor stem cells.
To read more about Charlie's story, you can follow along on Trish Knuth's CaringBridge journal.
