GREEN BAY, Wisc. (WFRV) Homelessness and hunger, especially among students, are very serious and growing issues in Brown County.

Just last year alone, over 1200 students were considered homeless. With a wait list of about 6 months to 1 year at area homeless shelters, many students move from place to place just to find a place to sleep at night. It puts a burden not only on families, but the entire community.

Local Five's Wendy Fleury spoke with Andrea Pasqualucci, a social worker with the Ashwaubenon School District, about her experiences with homeless students and what we as a community can do to help. Click the video link above to see the interview.

In an effort to raise awareness of the mounting problem, Brown County will take part in "National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week".

Here are some events that will be taking place:

Monday, November 12th through Thursday , November 15th: Seeds of Hope photo display at the Neville Museum. Admission is free with a canned food donation. This exhibit features photos taken by youth on what it means to be homeless or live in poverty.

Tuesday, November 13th: Manna for Life Hunger Walk, 1599 University Ave. The walk is to raise awareness of the issues facing the homeless and those in poverty. Register at 5pm for the short walk which will be followed by a chili dinner.

Wednesday, November 14th: Feeding America Food Drop, East Town Mall parking lot. Food distribution from 12pm-2pm (while supplies last). Feeding America will provide bags of groceries to individuals and families in need. No prequalification needed.

Thursday, November 15th: Building Community Bridges Resource Fair at the Salvation Army, 626 Union Ct., 11am-1:30pm. This event will feature representatives from community social services agencies sharing information on resources available for people living in poverty.
