Green Bay, Wis (WFRV) A group of disadvantaged Green Bay kids will have a much happier holiday season thanks to Packers Defensive Tackle Ryan Pickett.

Monday night, he hosted Shop With A Jock at the Green Bay Walmart on Main St.

Each of the 50 kids on hand were given a $100 gift card and, with help from a dozen Packers players, were told to buy whatever they wanted.

"It's one of those things that you don't really get to experience," says youth participant Anthony Shaw.

It has been a good day for Anthony. He went on a shopping spree and got to meet one of his favorite football players.

"It was really nice, I got to know him a little bit better," says Shaw.

It is part of the national Shop With A Jock campaign. In Green Bay, Pickett hosted the event with kids ranging from 4 to 18 years old.

"We run our organization as a family, and this community is a part of that family," says Pickett.

The kids are all from the Family Services of Greater Green Bay and the American Foundation of Counseling Services, places that help homeless, at risk and neglected youth.

Monday's event included dinner, free T-shirts and one-on-one time with the players.

"Obviously it feels great, but that's not the reason I do it, so I can feel great. I just really want to help these children," says Pickett.

Several other players joined Pickett to help out, including rookie defensive end Jerel Worthy.

"You know that you're making a difference in a child's life, and you have an opportunity to give back and really have a big impact at such a young age," says Worthy.

Jerel spent an hour with Anthony helping him pick out a gift, and by the end...

"Best Christmas by far ever, my first Christmas in Green Bay. I am having a blast," said Worthy.

"Yes!" replied Anthony.

Picket says the idea to host Monday's event came from his wife. It is his first time, but he says he hopes to be doing it for years to come.
