GREEN BAY, Wis (WFRV) It may be the first major snowstorm of the year, but Wisconsin State Patrol says drivers were ready for it.

"The roads are looking very good. Shoulders are snow covered, side roads are snowcovered and slippery, but the main roads are as of this time, just wet," says Sgt. Carl Mittelstadt.

No fatal accidents were reported in Northeastern Wisconsin as of Sunday evening, but motorists say the road up to Green Bay for Sunday's football game was slick.

"It really got bad just north of Milwaukee about by Germantown. I'll bet we saw 20 cars in the ditch, it seemed. I may be exagurating, but it's slippery," says Jim Krieger.

A crash on I-43 near the town of Denmark involving a car and a semi-truck sent one person to the hospital, but the state patrol says injuries were not life theatening.

Several run-offs were reported around the area before noon, all without injuries. Troopers say the roads quieted down around 4 p.m.

Motorists described the roads as icy and slushy, and they took extra precaution driving on Sunday.

"I'm putting my seatbelt on and driving slow," says Christine Beckman

"Four wheel drive and of course no cruise control, and I am driving slower and I am not texting," says Krieger.

"I have a shovel in the back of the car and a blanket and snow tires," says Heather Dreier.

Troopers said they expect the snow to tapper off by the end of the Packers game Sunday night, hopefully making the roads safer.

"The roads are going to be much better on their way out of the game than on the way to the game," says Sgt. Mittelstadt.
