Green Bay, Wis.(WFRV)--A toy gun brought onto a Green Bay school bus - created quite the scare this afternoon before students got out early.
This morning, two students at Edison Middle School reported that another student had a gun on a school bus.
The school handled the incident immediately -  and found out it was a toy gun.
The student was disciplined and the others two students were told that the gun was not real.
A rumor apparently spread throughout the school during the day, and a parent who heard it, called police this afternoon.
A school bus was pulled over while taking kids home and searched, but nothing was found, because the toy gun had already been confiscated.

What follows is the Green Bay Police Department news release on the incident:

On Wednesday, January 30 2013 officials at Edison Middle School in Green Bay were informed that potentially a student had a gun on the bus ride to school. Other students who were riding the bus told school officials what they had seen. School officials enlisted the assistance of the on-site School Resource Officer from the Green Bay Police Department. The police officer and school officials began an investigation, identifying the student as a juvenile.

The student was interviewed and a facsimile handgun was located in the student's possession. The gun had an orange tip on the end. The gun was confiscated and the child was issued a citation by the School Resource Officer. The child also received appropriate school consequences.

Due to the weather and early release from school, the child who had possession of the facsimile firearm rode the same bus home. Other students notified their parents by cell phone. These students on the bus did not know the situation had been handled earlier by police and school staff.

At 1:52 pm the Brown Co. Communications Center then received a call reporting the student had a gun. Not knowing if the two incidents were one and the same with delayed reporting, representatives of the Green Bay Police Department began investigating if these two incidents were related.

At approximately 2:05pm officers from the Green Bay Police Department and the Brown County Sheriff's Dept performed a traffic stop on the bus near Eaton Road. Officers made contact with the juvenile who had been previously issued a citation. It was determined these incidents were related.

Law Enforcement takes complaints of this nature very seriously. The actions of this student caused fear in many other students and parents. Several law enforcement officials were involved in the investigation of this incident.

At the time of this release the police report for this incident is not completed. It is not known why this student brought the facsimile firearm to school.
