APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) Parents are learning more about controversial school closings and consolidations within the Appleton area Catholic School system.

Leaders have announced changes to four buildings: St. Bernadette and Catholic Central will close at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.

Meanwhile, St. Thomas More and St. Pius X will merge.  They'll be consolidated and called St. Francis Xavier Elementary.

We're told this is a cost-saving measure to offset enrollment and financial issues.  Many parents say they still have lots of questions.  The changes will take place in 18 months and school leaders say that will be enough time to get many questions resolved.

But after the consolidations, there is no guarantee all teachers and staff members will still have a job.  Officials are also looking into the best way to repurpose the buildings once they close.
