"Zero Waste" in Brown County

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) It's a new way of looking at what we throw away: A Brown County group is trying to educate citizens about Zero Waste.

Through Zero Waste, only a small percentage of our garbage ends up in landfills.  It's a philosophy where items like plastics or food scraps are conserved and recovered - not burned or buried in landfills.

Many are pushing for manufacturers to limit excess packaging and other unnecessary wastes.  Communities like San Francisco and Austin, Texas have diverted up to 90% of waste from their landfills.

If you're interested in learning more about Zero Waste, the group is planning monthly meetings.  The next one is March 7th at 6 PM in the Brown County Central Library.
