GREEN BAY, Wis (WFRV) New developments in Green Bay's fight over capacity issues at St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter.

The Plan Commission held off on a decision regarding the shelter's Conditional Use Permit.

Leaders at St.John's say they walked away from Monday night's meeting disappointed.

"Evidently people knew about this 4-5 days ago, and rather than calling us and letting us know what's going on, that's very disappointing," says Deacon Timothy Reilly.

The commission tabled the shelter's request to raise their CUP from 64 to 84 for 60 days. Members say it is because nothing has been doen to fix the shelter's capacity issues. In December, the shelter was cited for being over capacity. The city and the shelter had been working together to come up with a solution. But Monday, the Mayor had harsh words for the shelter's president, Deacon Reilly.

"The truth has not been told at every meeting from him," Mayor Jim Schmitt.

The Mayor says the shelter isn't being truthfull about it's capacity numbers, and he wants the deacon out of settlement talks.

"I asked the bishop to put someone in there who maybe has a fresh start, a fresh look at long term homelessness for the county," says Mayor Schmitt.

Deacon Reilly says he isn't worried about being replaced.

"The Mayor has the right to say what he wants to say, if that's his judgement, I accept his judgement," says Reilly.

Shelter leaders say there have been miscommunications about capacity numbers.

"We will manage the shelter with 84 people at St. Johns, and when we get over 84, then we will go to the overflow sites," says Reilly.

Despite disagreements, the Mayor says he is open to ideas bout how to fix Green Bay's homeless problem.
