GREEN BAY (WFRV) Some 14-hundred Marinette Marine workers are currently building three Littoral Combat Ships for the U-S Navy. Now the navy plans to keep them working steadily for years to come.

"Just like the little things they have for kids. Being a little corner dollar store, my kids like it here," she said.

The store is the former home of Beach Road Liquor, which was involved in a high-profile welfare fraud case. But just after seven o'clock Tuesday night, Green Bay Fire Fighters were dispatched here and the store's history took a strange, nearly tragic turn.

"A male had poured a substance over the cash register and lit it on fire," said Green Bay Police Lt. Kevin Warych.

"When we arrived there was flames visible through the front window, we entered with a fire extinguisher and put the fire out," said Green Bay Fire Lt. Nick Craig.

But not before causing an estimated ten-thousand dollars in damage. Witnesses descriptions led police to arrest, 53-year-old James Parrish. But investigators are still sorting out details of the incident.

"Our investigators as well as our arson investigators are currently processing the scene and interviewing Mr. Parrish to determine motive and to understand why this event occurred," said Lt. Warych.

While the fire was put out quickly, fire fighters say the way it was started put the store and the clerk behind the counter in great danger.

"Anytime you use an accelerant there is an extreme danger there and the fire spreads very quickly," said Lt. Craig.

And such a risk leaves Doviet Austin baffled.

"It's outrageous. I don't understand why somebody would go and do that," she said.
