APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - A local county executive is looking for a way to gain access to federal healthcare funding, even after the funding was rejected by governor walker.

Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson says he is looking for ways to get access to funding initially earmarked for Badgercare.

Nelson says the move would help 7,000 county residents and would give local healthcare systems access millions of dollars.

He says the money could help economically.

"An infusion of those kind of resources into our private, local hospitals is a really big deal," he says, "not only do these hospitals provide state of the art healthcare for the people and do a wonderful job at that, but they're also job creators."

Nelson says he's spoken to county leaders from around the country about the idea and says he's excited about the possibilities.
