Wisconsin (WFRV) Starting Monday the Department of Transportation is highlighting safety for Work Zone Awareness Week.

Inattentive and speeding drivers have caused several close calls on Highway 41.  Including one just last week where a drunk driver nearly killed construction workers after flying into a closed off work zone.

The hope is that with extra awareness drivers realize the importance of slowing down and driving safe.

Last  year, there were more than 1,700 work zone crashes in Wisconsin that caused eight deaths and nearly 750 injuries.
