Walker, Barrett start last week of campaigning before recall election

WISCONSIN (WFRV) - The latest campaign finance numbers show Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has raised around $4 million during the recall election, and Governor Scott Walker raised nearly $31-million.

At a campaign stop Tuesday evening in Green Bay, Barrett said being outspent isn't discouraging.

"We're being out spent ten to one," Barrett said. "Let's face it. He should be crushing me. He should be crushing me! When you're out spent ten to one it shouldn't even be close, but he can't get his numbers above 50%. There's something wrong when you have a governor who's spent $30 million and can't get his numbers above 50%."

Meanwhile, Governor Walker continued touting jobs at a campaign stop in Waukesha. He visited Husco International, which has nearly doubled its workforce in recent years.

"It's one of the many employers in this state who feels good about the approach we've taken," Walker said. "And I think that ties in really well to what I think is one of the key issues, if not the issue on this campaign, and that's jobs."

Walker said even more jobs will be created after the election.

"We gained jobs in 2012 and I think one of the biggest things that we're going to see happening is after next Tuesday, and with the help of voters I'm elected to this term, it will help particularly small businesses who are uncertain about the future based on these recall elections," added Walker.

Barrett sees next Tuesday's vote coming down to trust.

"They haven't gone away when it comes to job figures," explained Barrett. "The trust issues haven't gone away when it comes financing the state, and the trust issues certainly haven't gone away when it comes to the John Doe criminal investigation. So it's going to end the same way it began, on the issue of trust."

Voters head to the polls on June 5th.
