Fond du Lac County, Wis. (WFRV) -- The driver in a crash that killed three Fond du Lac County girls has officially been charged.
The crash occurred back in February. It involved a total of nine girls in a single vehicle.
18 Year Old Carly Ottery is facing three counts of Homicide by Negligent Operation of a vehicle. She could spend up to 30 years in prison.
Wednesday, the Winnebago County District Attorney's Office filed the charges.
According to the criminal complaint, Ottery admitted to driving too fast down a hill, losing control and rolling the SUV.
Wednesday, the special prosecutor spoke to Local 5 about why it took so long to bring charges against Ottery.
"We waited to see reports from the crime lab and they got it to us as fast as they could," said Christian Gosset, a Special Prosecutor for Fond du Lac County. "The Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department got the reconstruction of the accident done and we met with all the victims' families that wanted to speak to us."
Winnebago County is prosecuting the case because there is a conflict of interest in Fond du Lac County's District Attorney's office.
