GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) It's known as the deadliest holiday of the year due to impaired driving. Because of this, a nationwide campaign, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over", targeting drunk drivers will run throughout the July 4th holiday.

Drivers throughout Northeast Wisconsin will definitely notice the increased presence of law enforcement on the road.

According to Michael Panosh from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, "People really like it. They like that we're out there. We're making a difference. Certainly the numbers that we throw at the problem are definitely making an impact at raising awareness and taking drunk drivers off the road."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges motorists to remember the following guidelines to enjoy a safe holiday without jeopardizing anyone's life:

plan a safe way home before the festivities begin

choose a designated driver and give them the keys before you start to drink

if you are impaired, call a cab, a sober friend or a family member

Finally, law enforcement encourages anyone who sees a drunk driver out on the road to call them right away.
