Keshena, WI (WFRV)- The Menominee County Sheriff's Department is investigating a drowning at Smokey Falls on the Wolf River.

It happened around 5:30 pm last night when 20-year-old Lina Maria Vergara Castaneda of Middleton entered the water while rafting and never came back to the surface.

A number of local rescue departments were dispatched to help find the woman but were unable to find her by nightfall and discontinued the search due to dangerous water conditions.

The search resumed early this morning during which time the victim was found around 8 a.m.

Police say she was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
