Woodson Embracing Shift To Safety

By: Ryan Rodig
Updated: August 1, 2012
7-time All-Pro Packers cornerback Charles Woodson is on board with his increased playing time at the safety position.

Woodson spoke to the media Friday for the first time since training camp opened and says he's embracing the playing time at safety in Green Bay's base defense.

"I'm thankful that they are giving me the opportunity to compete for a job," Woodson said to a large group of reporters.  "At 35 (years old) in this league they try to find ways across the board to get you out of there."

Woodson has been named to eight Pro Bowls and won the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 as a corner, but he understands things change in the NFL.

"I'm looking forward to writing a new chapter in my book and going out and having a great season."
