Gomez, Braun Push Brewers Past Reds to Earn Sweep

By: Ryan Rodig
Updated: August 8, 2012

Ryan Braun's run-scoring double in the eighth inning was the difference for the Milwaukee Brewers (51-59) in a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds, completing a three-game sweep over the NL Central Division leaders.

Braun was hitless in his previous 18 at-bats until he doubled to left  to score Carlos Gomez. Gomez tied the game with an RBI single before Braun's double.

Gomez also hit a solo homer off Mat Latos in the sixth inning.  It was the only blemish for  Latos who pitched seven strong innings while allowing only three hits and striking out eight Brewers batters.

29-year old rookie Jim Henderson worked the ninth to pick up his second save in as many nights.

John Axford earned the win after tossing a perfect eighth. Randy Wolf started for Milwaukee, allowing only two runs on six hits over six innings.

Jonathan Broxton took the loss for the Reds.

It is just the second time all season Cincinnati has been swept in a series.
