Sturgeon Bay, Wis.(WFRV)-- The Door County Sheriff's Department tells Local Five that a body was discovered by a group of divers in Whitefish Bay in Lake Michigan off the coast of Sevastopol. The divers then contacted the US Coast Guard.

The body was recovered at 3:08 pm on Saturday, August 18th. It was ultimately transported to Green Bay, where an autopsy was conducted to assist in a positive identification.

Authorities tell Local Five that the body recovered has been confirmed to be the body of Dirk C. Kann (DOB of 11-14-46) of Guttenberg, IA.

Dirk disappeared during a scuba diving exercise while diving with friends at the location of the shipwreck Lakeland on Sept. 4, 1999. The Lakeland is a shipwreck that is a popular destination for divers.  It is aprox. 200' under water.
