Neenah, Wis.(WFRV)--A special woman was honored in Neenah today. This afternoon, the city dedicated the new Herb and Dolly Smith park, thanks to the generosity of Neenah's Alice Jean Smith.
Smith, who lived most of her 87 years in Neenah, donated $600,000 to the city to help pay for the park.
The park was named after Alice's parents, Herb and Dolly Smith.
The park, which is located on North Lake Street in Neenah, features a picnic shelter with restrooms, bicycle and nature trails, plus there will be a canoe and kayak launch.
Curt Detjen, from the Community Foundation Fox Valley, "There aren't that many places on the Fox River system that you can easily get into the river for those kinds of recreational opportunities, so I expect 9 months of the year it'll be heavily utilized."
Neenah's mayor declared today Alice Jean Smith Day.
