APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) In January, state parks will open up to hunting and trapping.  It's part of a new law Governor Walker signed last April.  But the plan has spurred a lot of concern from hikers, campers and skiers who frequent the parks and are concerned about safety.

The law states hunting and trapping can't be done within 100 yards of designated areas like campgrounds and beaches.  Officials hope to ease further concerns during a listening session Thursday night.

The law allows hunting in state parks during any hunting season.  But DNR leaders are proposing a specific period from October 15th through the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend.  That's being done to avoid hunting during peak times at parks like summer camping and the fall color season.

Comments about safety can be made Thursday night at the Bordini Center on the Fox Valley Tech campus beginning at 6:30 PM.

Organizers say they'll review them during a follow-up meeting in December.

If you can't attend tonight, comments can also be submitted by mail or e-mail.
