Green Bay, Wis. (WFRV) - It's official, Green Bay and Allouez Fire Department will combine to create the Green Bay Metro Fire Department.

City and department leaders signed off on a long discussed merger Friday.

On December second, four fire fighters from Green Bay Station One will move to Allouez, which will make for quicker response times.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt says it's a move that took years of cooperation.

"This didn't just happen, I've been mayor for 10 years and this has been tried before," Schmitt says, "I think it is time for a stronger Green Bay community"

Under the merger, Allouez will also pay Green Bay $2 million for fire service.
