Green Bay, WI (WFRV)- The Broadway shopping district in Green Bay has come alive with Christmas cheer. Tonight the leaders of "On Broadway" held their annual lighting ceremony.

The lights definitely are bright on Broadway, and will remain that way for now through the holiday season. Lit up in an annual ceremony designed to showcase what Green Bay's thriving commercial district has to offer.

Hundreds of people  took advantage of the mild weather to take part in the celebration. After the lights came on, people wandered through the Broadway district - doing a little shopping - paying a visit to Santa's workshop with their kids, or hopping on board a horse drawn carriage to take in the Christmas decorations from a different perspective.

Event organizers are proud of the development here on Broadway, where people of all ages and backgrounds can come to shop, eat, live, work, network and play.

"The core of our district - the two blocks in the center -  are nearly full - we love it that way, shows green bay supports small businesses  and the outsides of the district are filling up quickly," says Jeff Tilkins of On Broadway.

Just this past week, news came out of the possible development of a 300 unit apartment complex on the south end of the Broadway district.

Officials say that's a sure sign of the value of the downtown Green Bay neighborhood.
