GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) Gun deer season has begun across the state.  Hundreds of thousands of hunters put on their blaze orange and hit the fields.

There was no shortage of deer being registered at the Mobil 310 gas station in Manitowoc.  Before noon Saturday, the DNR had checked and tagged more than 70 deer.

Last year statewide more than 300,000 deer were harvested.   This weekend more then 200,000 are expected to be harvested in the first two days of the nine day season.  "The easy winter from last year is showing in body size and development and there was a lot of production this past year.  Most people I'm talking to seen more deer then the one they brought in," Jeff Pritzl with the DNR.

The DNR wants to know how many hours hunters are spending in the field and how many deer they are seeing.  That information can be filled out on a deer hunter wild life survey.
