Holiday Wreath Program Aims to Prevent Fires

Green Bay, WI (WFRV) - The Green Bay Metro Fire Department and Appleton Fire Department hung Christmas wreaths on all fire stations Wednesday. The wreaths are part of a public awareness campaign that will last through January 1, 2013. The wreaths will be initially lit with all green lights. For every residental fire that occurs during this holiday season, one light will be changed to red. This is not to celebrate residential fires but rather to educational tool on fire safety.

The fire departments would like everyone to practive fire safety when it comes to the holidays. Never leave candles unattended, kaeep a safe distance around portable and fixed heating units, pay close attention when cooking meals, and keep your natural Christmas tree well watered.
