APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) After your Black Friday shopping is done, local business owners are encouraging you to check out Small Business Saturday. It's an annual effort to get folks to shop at locally owned businesses.
We stopped at several different shops in downtown Appleton to see why buying at these places, and not big box stores, has an impact throughout the community. Many say dollars spent here, stay here. And there are items and customer service you can't find anywhere else.
"We pride ourselves on personal service. All of our repairs are done in store," says Brian Frisch, the owner of Tennies Jewelry. They've been open in downtown for 100 years.
"You can see it being made right here. If you have a problem with it, you can bring it back and talk to me. I built it," adds Jeff Countney. He owns the Fox River Wood Shop. The store just opened on Tuesday.
Lots of shops are offering special deals. And credit card company American Express, a sponsor of Small Business Saturday, is even offering an incentive for cardholders.
