Fond du Lac, WI (WFRV)- Shoppers didn't have to wait for Cyber Monday to cash in on holiday deals. Today small business Saturday was the focus for those shopping on Main Street.

Local 5 found happy consistent customers can make all the difference on main street in any community.

Debbie Kienbaum is the owner of main street cafe in Fond du Lac. Personal service is how she and other small business owners are trying to separate themselves from the big chain stores or restaurants.

"You find a good crew, work a lot of hours and hopefully everybody sees that you're doing a good job and that you want to help them as much as yourself," Debbie says.

As part of small business Saturday, the U.S. Small Business Administration is asking people to support small businesses and all the work they do to provide jobs in the community.

According to the SBA, over the last 20 years small and new businesses have been responsible for creating 2 out of every 3 jobs in the country.

Today, over half of all working Americans own or work for a small business.

John Bartow is the owner of two bike shops in Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. He's been in business for 35 years and says supporting main street goes a long way.

"I think supporting small communities just helps the community be strong," says John.
