APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) The Fox Cities Salvation Army is looking for donations for its Adopt-a-Family program.  Their deadline is Monday, and there are hundreds of families still on the waiting list.

Donors are asked to purchase toys and a restaurant gift card for a low income family.  Each year, the Salvation Army sets a goal to help at least 650 households in the area.  They're still about 200 short of that goal this year.

"We provide a lot of Christmas meal assistance.  It helps needy families.  If we can't help them then they go to the Toys for Tots program - so we depend on those donations also," organizer Mindy Howell tells us.

The number of families requesting assistance has increased this year, while the level of donations has decreased.
