Pearl Harbor remembered in Oshkosh

Oshkosh, Wis.(WFRV)--It's a day that will live in infamy - today marks the 71st anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks.

    A special ceremony was held in Oshkosh to honor survivors and those who lost their lives.    
    Local Five's Donald Robinson has reaction.
    A documentary about that tragic day -- and the experience Wisconsin veterans had going back to Hawaii - was shared during a Pearl Harbor ceremony in Oshkosh.
    More than 24-hundred US service men and women lost their lives, along with countless others.
    Clyde Stevenson is a survivor.  He shared some of his memories of that day.
    "The only thing that saved me were two steel doors. I was in the Marine Corps, I was attached to the Battleship California."
    "We saw planes go down here and there, but we didn't know how much damage we did." 
    President Franklin D. Roosevelt didn't get the news about the attack until hours later.
    As the United States went to war, people stateside sacrificed and worked to provide the troops with much needed materials. 
    During today's remembrance of Pearl Harbor, there was the laying of the wreath, a gun salute, and the playing of taps.
    As Pearl Harbor survivors continue to get older, there's a push to get more people involved, so that this honor and appreciation continues for what they have done.
    Jon Lidonne, Outagamie County  CVSO, "It's important to preserve that legacy. We are losing that opportunity fast - as these vets die, we are losing some of their stories."
