Green Bay, Wis.(WFRV)-- You could say it's a sign of the times.
Today, Pope Benedict the 16th and other Catholic leaders officially joined Twitter.
Local Five News caught up with Bishop David Ricken of the Green Bay Catholic Diocese.
Although the diocese has been on Twitter, for nearly four years at @GreenBayDiocese, Bishop Ricken sent out his first tweet at the site today.
Bishop Ricken tweeted "12/12/12 a great day to send a first tweet- Our Lady of Guadalupe, @pontifex @aaronrodgers12. Life in the @GreenBayDiocese is good."
Bishop Ricken later spoke with Local Five News.
"Everybody's getting into social media more and more. We need to bring our connection and message to the people in ways and kinds of media that they're using. And we're going to be doing more and more of this as time goes on."
Pope Benedict the 16th's first tweet read,
"Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart."
Although his first tweet went out today, the Pope already has 985-thousand followers.
