WINNEBAGO CO., Wis. (WFRV) Ice fishermen have flocked to Lake Winnebago.  Dozens are already drilling holes through the ice.  Experts tell Local 5 there's still open water on the lake and it should be avoided.

But places like Asylum Bay have frozen over, with about six inches of ice already formed.  If temperatures continue to drop, more ice could form daily:

"If we get some below zero weather, we can gain up to almost an inch.  That would be great.  Last year, you know, it was a very warm winter," says the Otter St. Fishing Club's ice expert Don Herman.

He says a good rule of thumb is as follows: 4-6 inches needed for ATVs; 8-10 inches needed for snowmobiles; 12 or more inches needed for vehicles on the ice.
