New London, Wis. (WFRV) - Firefighters in Waupaca County rescued a man who was trapped in the second floor of his burning home.

It happened just before two tuesday afternoon at 509 Waupaca St. in New London.

Firefighters say when they arrived, they found 41-year-old John Janke hanging from his home's second story window.  They were able to use a latter to get him down and he was taken to the hospital with 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Fire crews were able to put the fire out quickly but the house was extensively damaged.

Firefighters say the fire apparently started near a second floor light switch.

The Red Cross is helping Janke and his family after the fire.
