Family Loses Dogs in Fire

SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. (WFRV) Two family pets died as a result of a house fire in Sheboygan.

Firefighters were dispatched to 1131 Oakland Avenue a little after 4:30 Monday afternoon. When they arrived, the first floor of the home was filled with thick, black smoke. A short time later, heavy flames erupted.

While there were no people in the home at the time of the blaze, firefighters were told that two pet dogs were still inside.  As soon as the fire was brought under control, a search for the animals was launched.

The pets were quickly located and removed from the home. While every effort was made to resuscitate the dogs, they died as a result of exposure to smoke and heat.

Officials were unable to determine a cause of the fire.

Total damage to the home and contents is estimated at $75,000.
