Driver's Retirement Affects Local Charities He Supports

GREEN BAY--(WFRV) Losing Donald Driver is not only affecting the Packers, but his retirement is also having a big impact on the community.
During his time on the team, Donald and his wife, Betina, have helped numerous non-profit organizations raise money.
The Donald Driver Foundation, which helps homeless families, is just one of many charities they support.
Each year, Donald hosts an annual softball game at Fox Cities Stadium to help raise money.
Timber Rattlers President, Rob Zerjav, said "He's been great for us. It's great to see someone as genuine behind the scenes as they are in front of the camera. And I'm sure he'd like to continue playing."
More than 8,000 people come out each year to watch the Packers defense take on the offense.
But it's just one of many events the Donalds host for a good cause.
"We have so much enjoyed working with the Driver and how much they've really made this a family project to help promote 'Give A Kid A Book,'" said "Give A Kid A Book" chair Jaime Leick.
Over the last five years Betina Driver has played an instrumental role in the "Give A Kid a Book" foundation.
Each year the organization collects nearly 6,000 new books for kids during the holidays.
"Give A Kid A Book" Chair 7:06:34-7:06:43 "She really put a lot of energy into speaking out about the importance of reading to your kids and the importance of providing books particularly for under privileged kids," said Leick.
But after Donald's announcement, the founders will have to find a news spokesperson.
"Obviously, we're hoping another Packers wife out there who wants to step up and start working with "Give A Kid A Book," said Leick.
