ONEIDA, Wis. (WFRV) - The Oneida Nation land committee has delayed a vote to allow the construction of a controversial gasification plant on its land until Wednesday.

This is Oneida Seven Generations latest attempt to build a gasification plant.

Previous efforts to build a plant on sites outside of the Oneida Reservation have failed.

Committee members say they have received a lot of written testimony on the issue and would like time to go over all of it.

"They wanted to give each comment its rightful piece basically, to be able to go through every comment that came in and to be able to cover their bases and make sure they gave each comment the time it deserves," Phillip Wisneski, an Oneida Nation spokesman says.

At the same time, opponents of the plant say they have been busy collecting signatures to help force a public vote on the plant.

"This technology is untested, it has not been successful," Leah Suedodge, an opponent of the plant says. "Incinerators are the leading cause of dioxins, and we cannot jeopardize the environment or the health of our children."

The proposed plant would go on the site of an old food distribution center.
