Pope Benedict XVI's last Ash Wednesday mass

VATICAN CITY, Rome (WFRV) - Pope Benedict XVI held his last Ash Wednesday mass today at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

Thousands of Catholics stood and applauded Pope Benedict XVI today. Speaking in Italian, the Pope said that he is resigning for the good of the Church.

The Vatican announced today, the process to elect a new leader will begin in mid-March.
