DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) - A Saint Norbert college senior is getting the opportunity to spend a semester in the White House.

Steven Garza is one of 140 students picked to spend their spring semester in Washington D.C.

The Coon Valley native is double majoring in political science and international studies.

For security reasons, he's not allowed to talk about the internship, but his mother, Ann Budzak-Garza shared his reaction with us.

"(He was) just ecstatic," she says, "he was jumping up and down. He was very excited.  Absolutely thrilled."

His professor says the internship will open new doors for Steven.

"We're very proud of Steven and we'd like to take the credit but Steven did the hard work necessary to get there."

Garza is one of three students from Wisconsin interning at the White House this spring.
