OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) The looming sequestration could soon impact a local airport.  The government has given notice to 238 airports across the country, warning of air traffic control tower closures.  Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh is on the list.

If workers are let go, pilots will have to land and take off without any help from those watching area air-space around them.

Wittman hasn't had commercial flights for a decade, but they do cater to flight schools and cargo planes.  In fact, leaders tell us it's the third busiest airport in the state behind Milwaukee and Madison.  Air traffic at EAA AirVenture contributes to those numbers.  "Without those people in the tower, pilots will have to be more visually cognizant of where they are," warns Airport Director Peter Moll.

So far, leaders at Wittman and EAA are taking a 'wait and see' approach to Friday's sequester deadline.
