HealthWatch (WFRV)    A devastating, life threatening disease can sneak up on a person at any time.  Even when they are not feeling sick.

Hallie Stumpf was having problems with Bunions.  The 74 year old needed some minor surgery on her feet.

Her doctor agreed.  As a precaution Hallie's doctor sent her to get a chest x-ray before surgery.

It was a move, that saved Hallie's life.  They did a chest x-ray and two days later it came back that I had a mass in my left lung." Said Hallie.

A biopsy showed stage three lung cancer.  So Hallie went to Aroura BayCare Medical Center.  She received thirty-five radiation and ten chemo therapy treatments.  The treatments shrank the mass.

Instead of going through more chemo and radiation, Hallie chose to go to Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon Dr. Alexander Roitstein to have the mass removed.

"The surgery for her was basically a lumpectomy.  It's done through an incision through the back of the chest and you had to remove a portion of the lung that has the tumor."  Said Dr. Roitstein.

Dr. Roitstein removed the tumor, the upper half of one of Hallie's lungs and some lymph nodes.

After the mass was biopsied they did find cancer in the tissue.   Dr. Roitstein says Hallie has an open door to get on with life cancer free.

"Green Bay has one of the better cancer treatment centers that there are." Said Hallie.
