Green Bay, Wis.(WFRV)--  There was a lot of excitement today at the Green Bay Diocese as the selection of the new Pope was announced. Local Five News was there as the Bishop and his staff watched the news from the Vatican on television.
Bishop David Ricken expressed surprise and happiness that the new pope - Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina - is the first Latin American Pope for the Roman Catholic Church.
As we watched, the diocese staff stood up and cheered as Pope Francis the First greeted the world from the balcony overlooking St. Peter's square in Rome.
