Former Packers QB Kiel Dies

By: Nick Goddard
Updated: April 8, 2012
Blair Kiel, a backup quarterback for the Packers in the early 1990's, has died at the age of 50.

Kiel became ill after an Easter gathering at a relative's home in Indiana, and initial reports say that it was due to natural causes and likely a heart attack.

Kiel played in one game for the Packers in 1988 and rejoined the team in both 1990 and 1991, starting two games, throwing for 865 yards and five touchdowns.

His nephew Gunner was a highly recruited high school quarterback, and will be a freshman at Notre Dame this fall.
