APPLETON, Wis (WFRV) - The news of Paul Ryan getting the Republican Vice-Presidential nomination sparked some local reaction and also a little confusion Saturday. From a stage outside the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, VA Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney called Congressman Paul Ryan the next President.
The news of the Jamesville native becoming Romney's running mate brought a smile to the face of Congressman Reid Ribble. Ribble was in Appleton for a backyard cook-out in his honor with Speaker John Boehner. To attend the fund-raiser is cost $200 and $1,000 for a picture taken with Ribble and Boehner.
Ryan took over the state's 1st Congressional District in January of 1999. He's made a name for himself fighting entitlement spending and trying to make changes to Medicaid.
Jamie wall is the Democratic candidate for the 8th Congressional District currently held by Ribble. Wall says Ryan's upbringing maybe small town, but he walks and works for the rich.
