Shaun Marcum took the mound in a game for the first time since June 14th Friday, making a rehab start with the Brewers Class-A affiliate Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Marcum threw 28 of 36 pitches for strikes in his three innings of work and struck out three batters.  The one hit he allowed was a solo HR in the second inning.

Marcum has been out with an elbow injury, the same one he had Tommy John surgery on two years ago.  Marcum said before the game it he would try to get his pitch count up to in his next start, and will decide from there what the best course of action will be.

Marcum's injury couldn't have come at a worse time for a banged up Brewers team this year, but also for Marcum who is a free agent next season.

He says Milwaukee has not come to him or his agent to discuss an extension.

"Everything has been quiet on their end," Marcum said to a small group of reporters before his start in game one of a double-header in Grand Chute Friday.  "That's just part of it.  They have a lot of young pitchers that are in Triple-A, and we have seen some of them this year with (Mike) Fiers and (Tyler) Thornburg that have good arms and a chance to do some pretty good things."

Marcum was asked if he would like to come back to the Brew Crew.

"I'd love to return." Marcum said.  "But I don't write the checks and I don't make the offers.  It's going to be up to them."

Before being placed on the DL, Marcum was 5-3 with a 3.39 ERA in 13 starts.
