Ashwaubenon senior Alex Flucke will follow in the footsteps of her older sister Melissa, signing a letter of intent Wednesday to pole vault at the University of Minnesota.

Flucke is the two-time defending Division One State Champion in pole vault.  Last year Flucke tied the D-1 record of 12 feet, 6 inches in winning her second straight title.

Flucke won't be on the team with her sister, now a high jumper at Minnesota, because Melissa graduates this year.  Alex says her sister helped with the recruiting process and while the older Flucke never pushed becoming a Gopher on her little sister, Alex knew Minnesota was for her after being so close to the program in recent years.

"I like the coaches, the atmosphere," Flucke said at her signing Wednesday.  "They were so welcoming.  I won't feel like a little freshman coming in, it'll feel like family."
